Statement in response to the House Democrats’ election year press conference attacking Michigan’s auto insurance industry

The following statement can be attributed to Tom Shields, spokesperson for the Michigan Insurance Coalition:

“You know it’s an election year when the House Democrats hold their bi-annual press conference attacking Michigan’s auto insurance industry. Their proposal is nothing more than an election year gimmick that would end up increasing no-fault auto insurance premiums for most Michigan drivers. If the House Democrats were serious about lowering auto insurance premiums, they would support legislation that would stop medical providers from charging auto accident victims 300 percent to 500 percent more than they charge other patients for the same service. Anyone supporting the House Democrat’s plan is supporting higher auto insurance rates for a majority of Michigan drivers.”
